Retro Christmas #2: PES6 PC – AMADOR

If I had to describe AMADOR in a single sentence, I would say you have never played anything like it.

The concept behind this PES6 (PC) mod is intriguing: all of the players of the game’s database are completely invented, their stats drastically reduced in order to create the typical amateur-level footballers; the clubs they represent are also not real – instead, each club is a region of a certain Western Europe country. This recreates the most tribal sports gaming experience in the history of gaming; as Barcelona and Madrid battle it out against Galicia and Andalusia, Lisbon against Porto, Azores against Madeira, Normandie against Occitanie, Tuscany again Lombardy, and well, it is a free for all, every region for himself…! Immersing oneself into a whole new world of football would already be a very attractive prospect on its own, but perhaps the most interesting aspect of this mod is how it totally transformed the gameplay itself. The players’ attributes are so uncharacteristically unimpressive that the brand of football produced by AMADOR ends up being completely distinct from that of the actual PES6, the base game it utilizes, providing a much more patient, brutally physical, and technically…despicable depiction of the sport: an accurate portrayal of amateurs kicking a football around.

Though the mod was originally a mere database-centered revolution, it attracted the attention of other talented modders and a small community organically rose from the ground up to support AMADOR with original team kits, stadium adboards, official matchballs, new menus and…amazingly, even an online platform for AMADOR players to enjoy this fantasy world of football with others around the globe!

The ideal Christmas gift for…: the guy who thinks he has seen and played it all; the man who desperately needs to freshen up his football gaming world.
